Douglas Fir is a slow grown and kiln dried timber sourced from North America, which carries a durable classification giving good longevity and very minimal movement that requires no treatment due to the density of grain.
This is a considerably more stable option than Scots Pine and is extremely well suited to more exposed locations. There is a superb graining pattern within the timbers which will naturally weather down over a period of time to a silver grey colour, but it is also an ideal timber to apply paint, wood stains and oils too.
Occasionally a mould will appear on the timber. This may be very patchy and could increase over time, the timber will be watermarked. The mould will occur being untreated like any external natural timber that is not treated. This is in no way detrimental to the structure or longevity of the timbers and over time if left will weather down to a natural silver/grey colour.
Warm wet weather can speed this process, once the timber has greyed and silvered down the moulding is not so apparent due to the colouring of the timber.
First Quality Air Dried European Oak is an extremely durable European timber that does not require any treatment. Oak is a very durable classification timber giving excellent longevity but is prone to movement and shaking (timber cracks) which is not detrimental to the timber.Showroom Directions →
