Benefits of Using Solid Fuels

There are a number of benefits to using solid fuels. Since solid fuel fires tend to be on continually this reduces condensation and therefore household mould which is sometimes associated with heating systems which come on and off. Medical research has indicated that it can reduce the possibility of asthma, hay fever and eczema.

Solid fuel systems have a tendency to be better ventilated than alternative systems. A chimney by its nature will encourage a flow of air and therefore better ventilation.

Coal now comes in different grades. As well as standard house coal there is smokeless fuel for use in smoke controlled areas.

Compared to electric and gas heating it is possible to hold a stock of solid fuel for those occasions when the supply of gas and electricity is cut off. You can still boil a kettle on solid fuel stove.

There is still no substitute for an open fire to add character to a room, and your open fire will always be a topic of conversation when guests arrive.
